A round-up of great events in Dorset this winter

It’s the most magical time of the year, so make sure to spread the festive cheer by attending some Christmas themed events in Dorset. There are a whole host of events and markets taking place where you can get some of the most incredible locally sourced festive treats and unique last minute gifts. But if shopping isn’t really on your list of things to do, there are plenty of other things for you to consider.

One of the most iconic sights in Dorset, Corfe Castle, has a whole calendar of things to do at this time of year. As it is run by the National Trust, you can expect them to go all out at this time of year with Christmas activities for the whole family. Christmas at Corfe Castle is one option, running until Christmas Day the castle is lit up and there are offers and events taking place at the local shops and eateries, plus Christmas party nights in the village.

Check the individual businesses in town to see what events are happening, but the Christmas cheer will be around until 25th December.

If you like the sound of celebrating this time of year at a castle, make sure to join in with some carol singers with Carols in the Castle, there are two sessions, one on 8th December and one on the 13th.

They aren’t the only National Trust property offering fun at this time of year, Kingston Lacy has lots of events scheduled too. Throughout December you’ll find the house decorated in the traditional Edwardian style and the gardens illuminated. Check the house’s website for full details. Families also have the chance to meet Father Christmas at the house in the grotto!

If you’re looking for a panto experience, Wimborne’s Tivoli Theatre is hosting Dick Whittington from 20th December until 5th January and other theatres throughout the region have everything from cabarets, comedy shows and more – so keep your eyes peeled on local listings.

Once Christmas is over, look to the New Year with Weymouth’s largest New Year’s Fancy Dress party which attracts over 20,000 people to the town centre annually, the Fancy Dress isn’t optional, so start planning your costume now.
