The Chilcott family run a small mixed farm in and around Owermoigne near Dorchester which specialises in producing free range Bronze turkeys for Christmas as well as growing crops and rearing cattle.
The Highest Welfare
All our turkeys are allowed to roam freely in pastures by day from 8 weeks of age, they are reared with the utmost care in barns with natural ventilation and plenty of straw bedding. All turkeys are grown to full maturity and to the highest welfare standards. They are fed using cereal based foods with no growth promoting additives.
The Traditional Taste
We do the whole job of rearing and preparing turkeys on the farm and are passionate about producing the finest quality turkeys for our customers. We begin rearing slow growing strains of turkeys in June, so that by December they are fully mature and well finished. The birds are all processed on the farm using traditional methods. Once plucked, they are finished by hand and hung in a cold store for at least a week to allow the meat to tenderise and develop its full flavour. We then dress and present them to customers in a box complete with fresh herbs and cooking instructions.
The Golden Turkey Scheme
We produce our turkeys in accordance with a quality assurance code. The code covers all aspects of production to ensure the highest standards, our facilities and production methods are independently inspected.
Turkeys are available to sell direct to the public at the farm gate or through quality butchers within Dorset.
