Perched on the hillside offering panoramic views of The Cobb and Jurassic Coast, HIX Oyster & Fish House is arguably the most picturesque spot in Dorset to enjoy locally sourced fish and seafood. A large terrace wraps around the informal, light and airy dining room with floor to ceiling windows.
Growing up in West Bay, Lyme Regis was the perfect location for local chef and restaurateur Mark Hix to open his second restaurant, which celebrated its tenth year in April 2018.
The menus at HIX are built around the long-established, personal relationships that Mark has with his suppliers and use only responsibly produced, carefully sourced and simply served British seasonal ingredients.
A keen forager himself, wild food is always featured on the Fish House menus with local sea vegetables complimenting simply cooked fish and seafood, landed along the Dorset coast and here in Lyme Bay. Throughout the autumn and winter a delicious set menu is served alongside the daily a la carte, starting at £19.50 for two courses.
The wine list reads as a charming tour of the local vineyards including Furleigh Estate, Lyme Bay and boutique vineyard, Castlewood. So, it’s not surprising to see Hix’s own label beers, made locally by Palmers alongside a seasonal cocktail list showcasing local spirits.
The Fish House can accommodate large groups and private parties, offering a selection of feast menus, designed to share. With a license for wedding ceremonies, you can enjoy your special day from start to finish in this stunning and intimate setting all year round.
Located a short walk from HIX Oyster & Fish House, HIX Townhouse features eight luxury double rooms and suites, personally designed by Mark alongside British artists and local producers, all individually themed around his passions. With honesty bars in every room and a communal kitchen for making snacks, the Townhouse is a home-from-home experience.
Away from the restaurant, Mark shares his passions and skills at his Kitchen Table experiences, welcoming guests into his Charmouth home for a four-course lunch once a month. These are a must-have gift for any foodie, and with plenty of time to chat to Mark while he cooks for only eight guests in this intimate setting, you’ll leave with a goody bag of HIX treats and recipes, and of course plenty of tips to use at home.
