Christmas wine suggestions from Morrish and Banham

If you’re starting to gather together your food and drink for Christmas Day and are wondering what on earth to serve with dinner, Caroline from Morrish and Banham has you covered with these tasty tipples, perfect for Christmas!

On Christmas morning,  what better way of an aperitif than a glass of Dorset Fizz or indeed a delicious Dorset Gin & Tonic! Bride Valley’s Dorset Cremant is a wonderful, creamy blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier grown on the pure chalk soils of the Bride Valley in Litton Cheney. With its green apple fruit and luxurious brioche notes, it is a perfect way to start the big day.

If something a little stronger is in order, then try a Fordington Gin G&T. Handmade in Fordington, Dorchester it has a wonderful Mediterranean flavour with notes of aniseed, lemon balm and mint, it is the perfect pre-Christmas lunch treat!

For many, a fishy first course is the tradition with perhaps smoked salmon, a local smoked mackerel pate, lobster from Portland or Crab from West Bay. Furleigh Estate’s Bacchus Dry & Bacchus Fume are a perfect match for these fishy favourites with bright, ripe citrus notes and crisp acidity.

For the main event, local Dorset Turkey is the choice (from Askerwell for M&B!) Both the Bride Valley & Furleigh Estate offer wonderful wines to match. Both vineyards produce a delicious Pinot Noir, plumps with soft, red fruit flavours which are reminiscent of the great red wines of the Cote Chalonnaise in Burgundy.

For something a little left-field why not try Furleigh Estate’s sparkling Blanc de Noir, a fantastic white fizz made from black grape varieties. The rich, dense luxurious fruit of the excellent wine will complement the festive Dorset table.
