Delicious, Delicious Deli

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]St. Alban Street in Weymouth is a quintessential English seaside thoroughfare, but amongst the buckets & spades and objet d’art, there is an oasis of wonderful Dorset produce. Delicious is a delicatessen championing great Dorset food, sourced from local farms & producers.

Delicious was created by Carl MacShilton and his brother-in-law Mark MacCormack both passionate foodies, but from very different backgrounds.

Carl’s started off in the hospitality business working in hotels and ran a ski lodge for a while, before switching to teaching across the UK and abroad.  The skills he learnt along the way, both in hospitality & teaching are now invaluable in providing his customers with the service that they expect from a small independent shop.  Carl is front of house, server, chef, barista and raconteur.

Mark is a little more academic with a MBA and now owns & runs a testing lab in Taunton. He had always fancied using his MBA skills in some sort of catering/hospitality business, so he & Carl put on their thinking caps.  Mark concentrates more on research and development.

They decided that Weymouth would be a great spot to open a business and St. Alban Street, with its huge footfall and its proximity to the beach as the ideal spot.  They weren’t wrong and many food outlets have since followed their lead.

In 2015 they opened Delicious a delicatessen selling a wide range of great Dorset produce, plus a small café area. They also stock personally selected by Carl, wines from around the world, cheeses from the UK and just across the channel.

Delicious is a place where the customers can with Carl’s invaluable advice and guidance, sample some of the foods before purchasing it.  You can do this by just rocking up or by attending one of their many events that they hold. These include fondue parties, wine/gin/rum (the next big thing) tasting (private & public), guest speakers etc. (keep an eye on their Facebook page for their latest events)

The café area has expanded over the years, a place to relax, escape the hustle & bustle of Weymouth and enjoy a coffee. Their specialty is Carl’s platters; these can be of local cheese, charcuterie, or both. Add some bread, chutney and a glass of wine; makes the perfect lunchtime snack.

There is always a warm welcome for Members of Dorset Food & Drink who would like Carl & Mark to stock their produce, just drop them a line to arrange a tasting.
