According to information gathered by the Food Standard Agency, Dorset is the cleanest place to eat out in the UK – so on top of having some of the best produce in the country, Dorset also has some of the best hygiene ratings!
The research found that restaurants, hotels and takeaways with the DT postcode, which includes those in Blandford, Sherborne and Sturminster Newton have all achieved the top food safety score for eating out. 121 hotels, 504 restaurants, 233 pubs and bars and 150 takeaways produced the top average score. Many of these establishments are supplied with products that are grown and supplied in the local area.
The BH postcode which covers Bournemouth and much of the surrounding area also scored highly when it comes to food safety with scores that are higher than the UK average. Overall, Dorchester was found to have the best scores, while the worst scores were found in London. Making the region the cleanest to eat in the South West.
Speaking to local media about the news, Dorset Council’s Food Safety Team Leader, Tamsin Horsler, said: “It is great news that Dorset’s food businesses are the cleanest in the country. We work closely with local businesses offering advice and guidance on food safety and training as well as carrying out food safety inspections.”
The Food Standard’s Agency’s food hygiene rating scheme gives businesses a rating from 5-0 which is displayed at their premises and online. The national average is a score of 4.52.
