Dorset’s Answer To Herbs and Essences

I get to meet a lot of passionate people developing their food businesses across Dorset, no more than Yordan and Justin Frampton, who have created in March 2018 Dorset Herbs and Essences Ltd. I met them on one of the hottest days of the year, they were hot, dusty and covered in sticky marigold oil, but they both had huge smiles…

Justin runs and own Conyers Gunshop, Angling supplies, Home & Country the oldest shop in Blandford. His family also farms in and around Oakford Fitzpaine, Justin was looking out for opportunities to develop a 16-acre field and Yordan came along with his plan to grow herbs.

Yordan is from Bulgaria and started his passion as a gardener growing herbs on a small 1-acre plot near Gillingham. Now he has 16-acres to play with and he has grand plans to develop it into a fully working herb garden, also as an attraction for the public to visit. Yordan is very keen to get individuals or businesses to adopt/rent rows of plants, so they can enjoy the plants the whole year round.

They have planted 10 acres of different herbs, Marigold, Lavender, Camomile, Roses, Rose Hips, Yarrow, Lemon Balm, Curry Plant and Sage. Some plants are in straight rows, whilst others have been planted in hexagons and spirals. Shortly a massive depiction of the ancient Bulgar Calendar that originates from the 2nd century will be planted (a bit like a 7 leafed clover). These herbs are ideal for bees to feed from and their two horizontal bee hives are already producing plentiful supplies of honey.

Yordan has only sourced the best quality plants to produce the finest oils and teas; he even traveled back to Bulgaria to buy English Lavender plants.

The marigolds are currently in full bloom and they are actually after some volunteer helpers to pick the blooms, you even get to keep a tray of them for your effort, please contact them through their Facebook or Instagram page. (August 2018)

I’m sat here typing whilst enjoy a refreshing cup of Dorset lemon balm tea, which is said to help with anxiety, sleep disorders, indigestion and wounds. I can see products like this selling well at markets and farms shops. It is still a very young business and one sure to grow, just like their beautiful herbs.
