Buckshaw Milk Sheep is a family run business managing a sheep farm in North West Dorset. This rural location is perfect for raising healthy and happy sheep and in turn, the Dorset pasture helps make great tasting cheese.
Not only are milks and cheeses from sheep delicious, they are also healthier than other alternatives. Unlike cows’ or goats’ milk, sheep milk has a sweet, creamy taste and produces an incredible, unique flavour cheese, of which there can be many varieties. Sheep milk is also more nutritious and lower in saturated fat than cow or goat milk and has been proven to help lower cholesterol. The lactose content is also lower than in cow’s milk, which is beneficial for those who have an intolerance but still want to enjoy delicious cheese, milk and cream.
We hand milk our ewes and our Buckshaw cheese is all handmade onsite. Because of the creamy nature of sheep milk and the glorious pastures the sheep roam, Buckshaw cheese has a distinctive taste that brings customers back time and time again. Our ewes are happy and are allowed free reign of the fields around the farm, enjoying the lush grass and natural food sources.
At Buckshaw Milk Sheep, we have several varieties of sheep milk, which we make by hand on our farm and sell at events throughout Dorset and the south west.
At present we make Buckshaw Blew, a semi-hard blue cheese, Buckshaw White, a strong unpressed white cheese, Buckshaw Feta, a fresh curd, feta style cheese which is less salty than your usual and a soft curd cheese which we flavour with garlic, apricots or chives, Buckshaw Cottage.
We are regular exhibitors at the Dorset County Show and other large food and drink events in the region. If you’ve never tried one of our cheeses before, come along to our stand, you’ll never look back.
