How to have an eco friendly stay in Dorset

If reducing your carbon footprint while still having a good time is important to you, here are a few suggestions of things you can do while in Dorset. These options won’t cost the earth and allow you to be kind to the planet while still having fun.

Leave the car at home

When it comes to visiting and travelling around Dorset, you don’t need to bring the car with you. The county has a number of mainline train stations with connections from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol… Just about everywhere really! Plus, larger towns like Bournemouth, Weymouth and Dorchester are great places to grab connections all over the county.
Alternatively, there is an extensive bus network so you can easily get from A to B without having to use the car. You could even get a boat to explore or use the many cycle and walking trails to get about!

Book a stay with an accredited accommodation provider

Being green is important to the people of Dorset, which is why you’ll find a wide range of accommodation providers who are going the extra mile to make sure that they are as eco friendly as possible. Many of them are accredited to Green Tourism Schemes and maintain the level of luxury and comfort that you would expect.

Eat local

Luckily, this is one of the easiest things you can do while in Dorset. With its strong agricultural and fishing background, you’ll easily find food and drink created and sold in the county meaning less food miles and therefore, environmentally friendly meals! The restaurants, hotels and other eateries all make sure they are sourcing their food sustainably and with the huge number of delis, independent shops and farm shops that can be found all over the county, you’re never too far away from high quality, locally produced food.

Being plastic free

While they aren’t happening at the moment, many of the events and markets that take place in the region operate a plastic free policy, where all cutlery, cups and more are completely biodegradable! This combined with national refill stations for drinking water and local businesses offering offers on refills, it’s very easy to be plastic free!
