Inside Jurassic Coast Farm Shop

Eric and Liz Sealey moved into Fossil Farm in 1985, it was then a mixed arable and dairy farm. In 2004 they decided to halt dairy farming and switched to raising heifer cattle for neighbouring dairy farms. During this time their son James was completing 3 years at Agricultural College and several years working in New Zealand.

When James returned brimming with ideas, they decided to specialise in grass fed, free range Aberdeen Angus Beef and Rose Veal. During the summer months the cattle are out in the fields enjoying fresh grass and during the winter months the cattle are housed in sheds, but they are still fed on silage that is grown on their farm.

In 2008 the family (also now includes James’s wife Laura (runs the social media side of things) and their two young children, plus another on the way) created Jurassic Coast Meats, their aim to sell their grass fed beef and other locally sourced meats to the catering trade.

Fossil Farm Beef is aged for 28 days in their purpose built butchery unit and catering facility. Here the butchers prepare the meats, make the sausages and burgers etc. ready to be delivered 6 days a week across Dorset, from Lyme Regis to the New Forest. The list of restaurants and pubs that they deliver to is a who’s who of the finest in Dorset.

They source their lamb from Holway Farm, Cattistock. Fresh duck portions are from Creedy Carver, which is just over the border in Devon. Proper free-range chickens from Piddle Valley Chicken, Dorset.

Their pork comes from West End Farm in Wiltshire, where Cameron Naughton rears his pigs outdoors in a natural environment and are free to truffle and forage outdoors.

Local fishermen from across the West Country catch all their fresh fish and they only work with fishermen who are aware of the importance of sustainable fishing.

Last year they launched Jurassic Coast Farm Shop, making all these wonderful produce available to the general public. You can order online and they will deliver to your doorstep or you can pick up direct from the farm. Why not pop along to their new retail farm shop on Saturdays 09:00-13:00 and try some of the produce yourself.

You can also order fresh fruit and vegetables from their farm shop. Along with cheeses, Dorset Sea Salt, preserves, condiments and chutneys. Their hampers are stuffed full of Dorset treats and are an ideal way for you to sample their delights. These are especially good for holiday lets, where you can have your week’s food delivered to your door or tent flap! You can of course make up your own hamper with your own favourites.

They are gradually increasing their stock of great Dorset produce; why not contact them if you think yours would be a great addition.
