The best BBQ ideas to leave your mates seething with jealousy!

It is a universal fact that BBQ’d food just tastes better than any other food. Perhaps it’s the idea of being in charge of the actual heat? Whatever the reason, BBQ food taste great and now summer is here and we’re able to spend more time together as restrictions continue to be lifted, we thought we’d suggest some BBQ ideas that will make you the ultimate BBQ master.

The Food

One way you can host the world’s best BBQ is by having a wide variety of food and drink. Luckily when it comes to food and drink, Dorset is one of the best places to find the freshest, tastiest products available.

Try to provide several options for your guests, burgers and sausages are obvious choices, why not spice it up by buying ground beef and making your own burgers or picking up some flavoured sausages from a local farmer? You can also provide steaks – a great way to impress your friends! Cooking them on the BBQ will also give them a smoky taste that you can’t quite get on an oven or in a frying pan.

As we’re by the coast here in Dorset, why not make the most of the fresh seafood by offering some at your BBQ? You can offer prawns as well as fish fillets just make sure to cook them on a direct heat and to add a lemon slice to prevent them from sticking to the grill.

Of course, not everyone at your BBQ is going to eat meat, but that doesn’t mean they have to miss out on the delicious food, try grilling some corn on the cob or creating vegetable kebabs. You can also grill halloumi on the BBQ for a tasty meat alternative.

The flavours

Here’s a top tip, to create a more flavourful meal, add aromatic herbs into the coals when starting up the BBQ. You can also sauces and marinate your meat before you add it to the BBQ.

The side dishes

We came up with the ultimate summer salad recently, take a look here, you can also provide coleslaw, rice, pasta and potato salad, either home made or picked up at a local farm shop or deli. You’ll also want to include some condiments and spices, you can find these produced locally too.

The drinks

Of course its summer, so drinks like Pimms are a must. You’ll also want a refreshing, local cider and some cold wine and gin for later in the evening. Dorset produces some of the best wines and spirits in the UK, giving you plenty of options. Our recipes page even has a couple of tasty cocktails for you to try out.

When it comes to the kids/ those who are driving home, provide some tasty, refreshing soft drinks, you can make your own lemonade or ice tea or even go all out and make smoothies.
