The Book and Bucket Cheese Company is a family owned business set in the heart of the beautiful Dorset countryside. They make small batch artisan cheese from the highest quality sheep and cow’s milk, sourced from local farms with the highest animal welfare.
The company officially launched in 2019, after founder Peter was asked to develop a range of small handmade batches of cheese to supply to restaurants and food events. This then grew into its own artisan cheese company.
All the cheese products available from the Book and Bucket Cheese Company are named after famous literary figures, are produced in Dorset and come in a variety of flavours. For a crumbly cheese that is perfect for salads, look no further than the Austen or for something softer, the Shakespeare, which is Brie like in taste and texture.
It wouldn’t be a Dorset based company without a reference to Thomas Hardy, the Hardy is our signature sheep milk cheese. Other varieties including the Orwell, a creamy soft cheese, the Burns, a squeaky cheese, the Smokey Burns which is smoked, the Hemingway – a mature salad cheese and the Tennyson, a blue cheese.
The cheeses are available throughout Dorset and beyond in both shops and on restaurant menus. A range of independent delis across the south west now stock Book and Bucket Company Cheese, with shops in Salisbury, Hampshire and Berkshire as well as in Dorset.

A number of hotels and restaurants also offer our cheeses as part of their menus and cheeseboards, and in 2023, Peter created two iconic chesses for Cunard’s – Queen Anne luxury cruise ship, where passengers can enjoy ‘Stowaway’ and Captain’s Wheel.
