Macaroni cheese with crabmeat

Enjoy some seasonal crab by adding it to this family favourite.

Ingredients:

  • 2 dressed crabs
  • 250g pasta
  • 1 onion
  • 400ml milk
  • 2 tablespoons plain flour
  • 50g butter
  • 250g brie
  • Salt and dry parsley
  • Bread crumbs and grated cheese (optional)

You can pick up fresh crab from one of our seamongers here. Get your milk, brie and butter from one of these dairies. The other ingredients can be sourced from farm shops around the region.

Method:

Start by preheating your oven to 180 degrees.

Put the crab meat into a bowl and place the empty shells aside for later. Cook and drain the pasta according to the packet instructions and while cooking, slice the onion and fry in the butter. Cook until soft and then add the four and stir vigorously. Add the milk and season, continuing to stir.

Add 2/3 of the cheese to the mixture, stirring until melted.

Add the cheese sauce to the cooked pasta, add the crab meat and mix.

If you like, you can use the discarded shells as dishes and place the pasta mixture into each one. Alternatively, add the mixture to a baking dish. Add grated cheese or breadcrumbs to the top and bake until the top browns.
