In the space of just 2 months, The Book & Bucket Cheese Company, based in Cranbourne in Dorset, wins 4 Taste of the West Gold Medals and 6 Great Taste Gold Stars.
The Book & Bucket Cheese Company was started in January 2019 by Peter Morgan after a lot of reading, research and help from good friends. Peter has a huge passion for flavour and local ingredients which shines through his products and since the launch, The Book & Bucket Cheese Company has already won a Taste Award for Best Dairy Producer and has been nominated two years in a row for the Best Food Producer in the Dorset Food, Drink & Farming Awards.
After a rollercoaster start to 2020, 6 of their Sheep’s milk Cheeses have won 4 Gold medals from the Taste of the West awards and 6 gold Guild of Fine Food Great Taste stars between them
The Book & Bucket ‘Shakespeare’ cheese, a creamy brie style cheese, was awarded both a Taste of the West Gold medal and 2 Great Taste Gold Stars. One of Great Taste judges noted about Shakespeare… “A very attractive little cheese with a softly delicate bloomy rind that melts in the mouth. The cheese inside is soft and creamy with hints of hay and farmyard and fresh air. It melts on the tongue, leaving a soft creamy rich cheese with notes of lactic acid just at the back of the tongue. Milky and clean, this is a really delicious cheese.”
The Book & Bucket Cheese Company also launched 3 new cow’s milk cheeses in May 2020 after helping a local dairy farmer whose milk quote had been cut due to Covid Lockdown. Peter bought the rest of their milk and turned the milk into these 3 delicious cheeses – Blyton, Huxley & Huxley Fire. Blyton is a Brie type cheese which has made its way onto some of our amazing local restaurant menus and into chef’s kitchen – including James Golding’s kitchen at the Pig Hotels. Huxley, whose name was chosen from an online poll generating more than 400 responses, and his fiery, Dorset Naga Chilli laden sister Huxley Fire, are also both doing well. They are perfect for frying and have been a feature on many summer BBQs.
To celebrate an award winning summer, The Book & Bucket Cheese Company have launched some Limited Edition ‘Winners Selection Boxes’ which contain all 5 cheeses with a Great Taste gold star.
