Langham Wine Estate held a celebration on 23rd May for press, sommeliers and chefs to commemorate the planting of their new vines. The new 45-acre planting will enable the team at Langham to create even more incredible wine year on year.
Currently, Langham sells through all 50,000 bottles that they make year on year. Speaking about the decision to plant more vines, Justin Langham, Director, said: “We sell all the wine we make and we are having to turn customers away. The easy thing to do would be to go out and buy grapes and rapidly expand that way, but that is so much against our ethos. The expansion of the vineyards will enable us to continue to make wine with grapes grown under our control to ensure the best quality.
“Those of you who have followed our journey for a while will be aware that quality is at the forefront of what we do here and we wouldn’t want to make any decisions to compromise that. As is true with our choice to use a wild fermentation process which relies on native yeasts for our wine, the option to plant more vines, rather than buy in fruit is a slower option. This option, however, ensures that we are staying true to Langham Wine Estate’s aims and values.”
