About Us:

Conservation Grazing and Rare Breed Farming in Purbeck

Nestled in the heart of Purbeck, this family-run farm champions conservation grazing and nature-friendly farming through the use of three key livestock breeds. Each plays a vital role in maintaining local habitats and heritage landscapes.

The farm’s rare breed Hebridean Sheep graze marginal land, including the iconic site of Corfe Castle.
Their grazing helps restore wildflower populations and contributes to the preservation of the castle’s structure. Meanwhile, the Poll Dorset flock, which lambs in autumn, enjoys panoramic views over Swanage Bay and spends the winter months grazing herbal leys. Completing the trio, the farm’s herd of Belted Galloway cattle graze RSPB-managed heathlands around Wareham, helping to manage gorse and maintain the delicate heathland ecosystem.

The farm’s ethos of “you are what you eat” is reflected in its meat boxes: Hebridean Hogget, Dorset Spring Lamb, and Beltie Beef—each offering a true taste of the heaths, meadows, and coastal views of Purbeck. These animals share their habitats with rare bats, owls, amphibians, and flora, and their management is carefully tailored to coexist sensitively with these species.

Two of the farm’s breeds are listed as rare by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
By supporting the farm’s meat boxes, customers contribute to the conservation of these breeds.
The farm registers both female and many male animals for pedigree breeding, with many going on to graze other conservation sites across England.
As a member of the Hebridean Approved Hogget Scheme, the farm adheres to high standards for both meat quality and breed conservation.
