BeeWrap UK wins place on Lyreco Support Programme

Julie Woodward, the founder of BeeWrap UK is celebrating after winning a place on the Lyreco Goodness Microbusiness Support Programme, as one of only seven businesses, BeeWrap UK will now benefit from a support package worth £20,000.

Based in Poole, BeeWrap UK is constantly recognised for its strong eco-credentials, having won numerous awards, including The Prestige Award’s Best Eco-Friendly Food Wrapping product and the Dorset Food, Drink and Farming Awards.

Speaking about her Lyreco win, Julie said: “This is a fantastic way to raise awareness and show there are easy swaps to reduce single use plastic.”

Speaking of single use plastics, did you know that in Britain, we use 1.2 billion meters of cling film and other similar plastic wraps every year. That’s enough to wrap around the globe 30 times! As convenient as it is for keeping food fresh, you can easily cut down on your plastic use with BeeWrap UK, which are handmade using 100% cotton, beeswax, pine rosin and jojoba oil. The whole thing is then packaged in compostable FSC paper with a clear sleeve made from potato starch. Each wrap is reusable for up to a year and provides the same function as traditional clingfilm. Plus, they can be composted, rewaxed or used as firelighters once you’re finished with them. If that wasn’t enough, BeeWrap UK wraps also have natural antibacterial properties, so you can keep your food fresher for longer.

Having won a place on the support programme, Julie hopes to continue her mission to make affordable eco products and her wraps are now available for purchase from Lyreco’s online store.

BeeWrap UK have joined a diverse range of businesses as one of the seven winners, all of which have a commitment to being eco friendly and environmentally conscious. All winners will benefit from a place on Lyreco’s online shop, marketing and communication support as well as ongoing business support. Lyreco is the third largest distributor of workplace products and services in the world and through its support programme is looking to find and bolster ambitious businesses across the UK and Ireland who are motivated by a societal purpose.

Speaking about the latest winners, Andrew Bryers, Head of CSR for Lyreco UK and Ireland, said: “I was thrilled to meet the entrepreneurs who are pushing boundaries in their industry. The programme is a small but vital mechanism to help grow these businesses, while also introducing innovative products and services to Lyreco. Each is unique and BeeWrap UK is a wonderful example of the new energy and passion these microbusineses possess. This is the first step in this innovative programme and we are looking to fill the remaining three places and integrate it as an ongoing initiative every year.”
