John Tucker wasn’t intending to start a rum distillery, but wanted to drink a British rum that is wholly made in Dorset from the very finest ingredients. He subsequently found there are only a small handful of truly British rums in the UK; most are spiced rums made from a Caribbean rum base.
With the encouragement of his wife Sandy and friend Charlie, John set out to create a British rum, one that would stand shoulder to shoulder with the finest brown spirits across the globe. The natural sweetness of the molasses shines through, so they don’t add any sugar to the final drink.
Black Ven was the result.
Most of Black Ven’s ingredients are sourced locally in the south-west and John only uses the best-quality bakers’ molasses. With no sugar added to their fermentation, this means more flavour in the finished product.
