Purbeck Ice Cream was first established in 1988 when the introduction of dairy quotas made Peter and Hazel Hartle’s herd of 60 dairy cows unviable.
Pete, Hazel and their three young sons had to look for alternative uses for their excess milk, and as lovers of ice cream, they decided there was an opportunity for high quality, all-natural ice cream without additives or artificial colours that also catered for food allergy sufferers by being egg-free, gluten-free, and nut-free. Purbeck Ice Cream was born.
Purbeck Ice Cream is created from the highest quality local produce available, with 60% Purbeck milk and 22% Dorset cream comprising the majority of the recipe. All ingredients are natural, with no artificial additives or colourings and sourced as locally as possible. This ensures that Purbeck can guarantee the quality of the ingredients, even the cones they use are British!
They have since introduced Vegan, Sorbets and Chocolate, along with receiving many awards on the way and are Halal accredited.
Dedicated to the environment, Purbeck Ice Cream takes every care to maintain the beautiful countryside around them and by achieving Carbon Neutral accreditation they continue to choose and encourage their suppliers to match their eco-friendly ethos.
In addition, we are proud to add that Purbeck Ice Cream are Founder Members of Dorset Food & Drink .
