At Dorset Food & Drink, we’re always proud to champion the incredible food, drink and talent that comes from our county. Every now and then, a story comes along that shines a spotlight not just on one producer, but on Dorset as a whole.
This is one of those moments.
We’re delighted to share the news that Langham Wine Estate’s award-winning Blanc de Blancs was recently selected to be served at the State Banquet hosted by His Majesty King Charles III at Windsor Castle, held in honour of the Sultan of Oman.
Even more remarkably, Langham’s Blanc de Blancs was the only English wine chosen for the evening’s four-wine list, sitting alongside some of the world’s most prestigious and celebrated wines. For a Dorset-produced sparkling wine to be recognised on such a stage is a truly extraordinary achievement.
A Proud Moment for Dorset
For those of us who spend our days championing Dorset’s food and drink sector, this recognition feels particularly special.
Dorset’s unique combination of landscape, climate, chalk soils and passionate producers creates the perfect conditions for producing exceptional food and drink. Langham’s success is another shining example of what can be achieved when talented people work with the land and allow a sense of place to shine through in what they create.
Based on a 34-hectare estate near Dorchester, Langham Wine Estate has built a national reputation for producing outstanding English sparkling wines. Their low-intervention approach to winemaking allows the character of the grapes, vineyard and Dorset terroir to take centre stage.
It’s a philosophy that continues to win awards, attract national attention and, now, earn a place on one of the most prestigious dining tables in the country.
Celebrating Dorset’s Terroir
One of the things we love most about this story is that it isn’t just a success for Langham. It’s a success for Dorset.
Every bottle tells a story of Dorset’s landscape, its chalk soils, the skilled hands in the vineyard and winery, and the growing reputation of the county as a producer of world-class food and drink.
As Langham’s Head Winemaker, Tommy Grimshaw, said, seeing their Blanc de Blancs served at such a prestigious occasion was not only a proud moment for the estate but also for Dorset and the wider English wine industry.
We couldn’t agree more.
