Dorset Council have revealed the artwork that will feature in the new Weymouth Sculpture Trail, which will reflect the town’s association with the sea. The trail will feature two larger works, which have required planning permission and will be on the Esplanade. One will feature creatures found in Weymouth Bay, while the other is an abstract piece inspired by climate change.
In total, there will be six sculptures located around Weymouth which hope to encourage people to visit lesser known parts of the town. The full trail will be just under a mile long and will be completely accessible. Each sculpture has been commissioned by Dorset Council working with B Side, with the project having been in the works since 2018.
