The UK’s first ever vegan kid’s festival comes to Dorset!

The Vegan Kids’ Festival is bringing together vegan children and their families from all over the UK and beyond.  Vegan-curious kids and their vegan-curious parents are welcome too!  The festival has visitors travelling from as far as Germany and Switzerland for the 3 day event, which includes two nights of camping in Dorset.

Taking place at Moonacre Partyfield, Dorchester Road, Sturminster Marshall BH21 4EU, between the 22nd and 24th July, the organisers are thrilled to announce that BBC star Omari McQueen, presenter of What’s Cooking Omari? the UK’s very own teen vegan chef will be making a special appearance – as well as vegan chef Freya Cox from the Great British Bake Off.

Dana Burton, founder and organiser, says: “We are delighted that Omari and Freya wanted be part of our festival, both young vegans who will inspire many of our young festival-goers. Our main stage will be the central hub with lots of live entertainment. In our beautiful woodland area, you can enjoy the outdoor cinema or silent disco. Our campfire, will come alive at night and a local astronomer will give us a tour of the night sky. We also have lots of outdoor activities and a giant inflatable science dome.

“Want to chill out? You can in the wellness zone, where you can find yoga, a gong bath and LED hula hoop class at dusk, or get creative in the creative zone, through arts, drama and music.

“We want to inspire all ages, so there will be activities suitable from tots to teens, including our creative zone, sensory play for the tots and graffiti workshop and activism song writing workshop for teens.”

Dana created the event because she wants to empower vegan children to feel part of something and not feel isolated. She said: “I just wanted my kids to know they were not the only vegan children on the planet. So I created the Vegan Kids’ Festival. Often vegan children are the only vegans in their class – and sometimes even the whole school. That can be hard for them to understand.  This can make them feel different and isolated – or even worse picked on or singled out.

“At the Vegan Kids’ Festival, we really want to create memories for families as well as a real community for vegan children where they can make new friends. My aim is to create a mini vegan world for 3 days, where everyone who attends can be surrounded by like-minded people and play, safe in the knowledge that everything is vegan, everyone is a friend, and everything is designed with kids in mind. This event is all about the children; our changemakers of the future.”

On-site, the festival has camping options, from bring-your-own tent or campervan right up to luxury glamping. As this is the first year for the event, they are keeping numbers deliberately low, to ensure it runs smoothly, and currently, there is space for just 100 vegan families, with less than 30 family tickets left.

Dana continued: “It is our hope that this festival will grow year upon year as veganism grows too. It’s my aim to inspire vegan kids to showcase the best of veganism and show them all how amazing they are for making compassionate choices every day.”
