Weymouth 51 cafè opening a success!

Weymouth 51, Weymouth’s spiciest artisan chilli sauce business is celebrating after a successful launch of their new café shop in Weymouth. The Weymouth 51 Cafè Kitchen Shop has now been officially opened a month and has gone from strength to strength.

Headed by Mikka and David, Weymouth 51 started selling their own sauces a couple of years ago from locally grown chillis and are excited to be opening their own premises. They said: “After an amazing couple of years building this family business, we now have the arrival of the Weymouth 51 Cafè Kitchen Shop which we hope will give people a unique dining experience and the chance to learn more about growing and fermenting food.”

Mikka takes care of the front of house. Originally from Hong Kong, she has an impressive eye and takes care of all the final details. After spending years working in high-end visual marketing, she knows how to set a scene and put customers at ease. She uses her knowledge of Asian food to ensure that despite using locally sourced ingredients, all the cafè’s Asian dishes feature authentic flavours, straight from her childhood.

The pair describe the cafè as being a grown-up space to enjoy everything about chilli filled with simple, fresh, local produce and a fine cup of coffee. It is a friendly space, with an industrial feel, with the sauces being made on the premises and a wonderful display of ferments, pods and plants to look at while you’re enjoying your meal.

They said: “The food on offer is simple, but amazing with inspiration from around the world. Our consultant chef has a highly regarded Michelin background who has worked under the tutelage of people like Phillip Howard, Marco Pierre White, Brian Web and more.

“We offer a truly bespoke experience and hope to reveal more facilities as time goes on. We hope to offer refills of our products from the café and to promote our non-pasteurised and liveliness products such as Kimchi, fermented vegetables and our Dorset Fire Tonic to get you started in the morning! We hope it will be a space for people to come for advice on fermenting at home so we can all keep healthy – which is important with today’s busy schedules.”

Open for coffee all day and food served from 12 noon until 5pm, Monday to Friday, Weymouth 51 Cafè Shop Kitchen can be found at Basepoint Business Centre on Jubilee Close. All the menus are created using local ingredients and suppliers, including Dorset based company, Grounded Coffee, as well as sourcing all bottles, jars, packaging and other items from the UK. Where possible, all packaging is sustainable and there is a real focus on caring for the environment

So, if you find yourself in Weymouth, make sure to visit the Weymouth 51 Cafè Kitchen Shop and support a local company in a friendly, comfortable environment, with unpretentious cooking, bold flavours and plenty of adventure. Don’t forget, Weymouth 51 is more than just another hot sauce company!
