The Baking Bird – Lizzie creates specialty home baked and hand made goods, making the most of the wealth of fantastic produce available here in Dorset.
I have been cooking and baking since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I used to plague my mother’s baking days by “helping” and I use that term loosely. The over kneaded grey pastry jam tarts were always a favourite. My best ever memory of true baking success was when I was about 3 or 4 years old and I made fairy cakes with my long suffering Mum. My Dad came home from work and I was so excited … Dad took a bite and rolled on his back with his arms and legs in the air to play dead – I just KNEW he loved them. I am pleased to say that the baking has moved on a little since then ….
Today, you will find an amazing selection of hand-made seasonal breads, pastries, bakes, savouries, biscuits, puddings and wherever my imagination takes me. But you can guarantee that it’s Dorset through and through.
Just about everything I produce is cooked from my kitchen in Upwey with an emphasis on using the very best of seasonal, local produce. You can often find me at a variety of Dorset Farmers’ Markets, Food Festivals and other events with my range of baked goods.
When it comes to cakes and biscuits, I’ll make just about anything, from cheese cakes to yule logs and mince pies to everyone’s favourites like rock cakes, chocolate brownies and flapjacks. My bread ranges from focaccia to rolls and I often have a variety of pies, quiches and other pastries on offer at local events. You can find a full list of the events I’m appearing at on my website, so take a look and visit me for a treat!
