Celebrate National BBQ Week with these producers

National BBQ Week runs from 4th until 10th July and this year, it is the 26th celebration of BBQs in the UK. After having to cancel and rearrange the last two year’s due to the pandemic, this year, the organisers are hoping that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.

To help you celebrate, why not have the best BBQ ever by picking up everything you need from one of our producers?

First off, you are going to need the essentials – burgers, sausages, meat for kebabs etc.

Take a look at what is on offer from the Dorset Meat Company or Jurassic Coast Meats – you can often get BBQ boxes, perfect for those of you who want to entertain. Or visit Brace of Butchers at their farm shop.

It isn’t just about the regular BBQ fare either, you can also serve up some dried meats and charcuterie, speak to either Capreolus Fine Foods or the Real Cure for all your charcuterie needs. You might fancy something with an Italian twist, in which case, speak to Mercato Italiano, or perhaps you want something a little more unusual – Taste of the Wild and the Dorset Game Larder offer only the freshest seasonal game.

If you’re after a large range, check out what is on offer from Dorset Farm Foods or Roberts Food Service.

Maybe, rather than meat you’d prefer to have some seafood for the BBQ? If that’s the case, Weyfish or Swanage Bay Fish are great options for all your fishy needs.

If you’re catering for vegans or vegetarians or perhaps you’re cutting down on your meat intake, you don’t have to miss out on those wonderfully smoky BBQ flavours – check out some of Dorset’s best free-from providers for locally made alternatives. You’ll also need fruit, veg and salad items, so head to some of our farm shops and delis to get everything you need.

No BBQ is complete without herbs, spices, sauces and condiments. Pick up locally made olive oil, chilli jam, sauces, locally made sea salt and more – check out these producers here.

Once you’ve finished with the main attraction, you will of course need something sweet for after, luckily, so pick up some ice cream and some other treats here.

With the food sorted, it’s all about the drink. No West Country BBQ is complete without a cider or two – Palmers Brewery offer a range of different ciders as do Dorset Star Cider, Noddy’s Cider and Bridge Farm. Several cider makers also produce apple juice for the under 18s or those who want to keep a clear head. Find other soft drinks here.

There is something special about a nice cold gin, glass of wine or a cocktail or two over a BBQ too, so make sure to stock up. You can visit Morrish and Banham for a wide selection of wines and other drinks, or go straight to Langham Wine Estate or Furleigh Estate and pick your favourites. Alternatively, you can buy artisan gins here and local vodka here. Make them extra special, by making a couple of cocktails,  you can find cocktail recipes here.
